There are some fishing charters within sixteen miles in the town of Shelter Bay. Shelter Bay Charters and Kimar’s Charters Stannard Rock is the most popular trip and has the most remote lighthouse in North America. The reefs are located ten feet below surface and you can find sixty pound Lake Trout there.


One of the best ways to enjoy the lake is by pontoon boat. There are a couple choices in the bay Seaberg Pontoon Rentals and Superior Pontoon Rentals Also a few miles out of town is Renze Power Sports

Another great way to experience the lake is by kayak and there are two choices in Munising. Uncle Ducky Outdoors and Northern Waters

ATV trails are another popular thing to do. To rent a side by side or four wheeler check out Munising Motors or Renze Power Sports

The area is well known for snowmobiling and you can rent a sled at Munising Snowmobile Rental also Munising Motors and Renze Power Sports.

Cross country skis, snowshoes and outdoor gear can be rented at Northern Waters also about an hour away is Grand Marais Outfitters and Down Wind Sports Down Wind also hosts an ice climbing event in Munising.

Grand Island is part of Hiawatha Forest. It protects our bay and is a beautiful place to adventure by bike or hiking. You can get there by boat or there is a ferry service during the summer to get across. Call 906-387-2600 for rates and schedule.


The city of Munising offers an ice arena, tennis courts, ball diamond, boat launch, marina 906-387-3445, city park, bike path, tot lots, skate boarding park, and a downtown area that has a lot to offer

Just outside of the city limits is a beautiful 18 hole golf course with a bar and restaurant,

There is a motorbike track five miles away, They also have a paintball course. Downtown we have a laser tag place – There is a bowling alley, High Fives

There are some nice beaches in the area. Sand Point is just down the road and was named one of the top five summer beaches by the weather channel.

There are 17 waterfalls and 10 lighthouses in the nearby area that you can see.

We have many hiking, biking, cross country ski, and snowshoe trails in the surrounding area.

Ice climbing is a popular thing to do in the winter and there are some excellent places in the parks, falls and the Eben Ice Caves is twenty miles away.

Downhill ski areas, in Chatham they have a small hill (16 miles) and Marquette has a very nice place (45 miles) Marquette Mountain.

Other Interests

American Legion has a post in town. There is a historical museum. The local high school has competitive sports teams that are fun to watch. A casino is five miles away and a couple more around an hours drive. Munising has a small airport for individuals planes Hanley Airport, Sawyer International is 35 miles away. Escanaba and Iron Mountain also have an airport and are an hour and two hour drive.
